The ogrillon first appeared in first edition in the original ''Fiend Folio'' (1981).〔Turnbull, Don, ed. ''Fiend Folio'' (TSR, 1981)〕 The player characters confront an ogrillon in the Keep of Adlerweg, who wears the counterpart to a magical glove that they are seeking, in the module ''The Gauntlet'' (1983).
The ogrillon appeared in second edition for the Greyhawk setting in the adventure module ''Greyhawk Ruins'' (1990) under the "ogre, half-" entry. The ogrillon appeared in the ''Monstrous Manual'' (1993) under the "half-ogre" entry.〔Stewart, Doug, ed. ''Monstrous Manual'' (TSR, 1993)〕
The ogrillon appeared in third edition in ''Dungeon'' #83 (November 2000).
